Welcome to the Main Event or Bust blog. The purpose of this blog is to document my quest towards an entry at the WSOP Main Event. My goal is to start with a modest sum of money, and work my online bankroll up to the cost of an entry fee, and travel expenses to the World Series of Poker Main Event. This blog will track my bankroll and my journey. As a 15-year veteran of competitive poker, I’ve learned a few things, but still consider myself an intermediate player. I’ve won a few small entry fee live tournaments with fields smaller than 150; crushed colleagues, friends, and strangers at home games for years; but have had just moderate success online.
So what’s the problem? I need to get better. Like most, I’m prone to tilt, and have been called a donk on occasion. This blog will track my evolution from poker hobbyist, to poker player. Due to the recent economic slow-down, I find myself in the position where I have a bit more free time to play poker, and wanted to answer the question once and for all–could I play poker for a living or not. Do I have delusions of grandeur that I will some day be WSOP champ? Definitely not–but I’m open to the idea, and pledge to be a great ambassador to the game if I should be so blessed.
Since my main objective is improvement, honesty is key. I’ll be updating my bankroll as it fluctuates after each session, and will try to post hands which I felt were key determining factors in my success or lack of at each session.
What do you get out of it? Well, if you share my journey, I hope you can learn from my mistakes without suffering them, and share in my successes. Hopefully, my journey will inspire others to follow their dream of seeing if they have what it takes to turn pro. Please feel free to cheer for, or against me in my venture. I’ll also appreciate any support, advice, criticism, or comment on any aspect of my blog. Though this is an exercise in introspection, I’m going to open myself up to your scrutiny in hopes that it will make me a better player.
I will play on a few different sites, and attempt to use some of the multitude of tools that are available to online players to improve my game. I’ll let you know what I think of them, and whether I feel any of them improve my online game. I’ll also be sure to discuss anything that relates to poker, as appropriate.
I’m looking forward to our journey together.
